Overview
The City of Newton Public Works Department is headed by the public works director / city engineer who
oversees and is responsible for operations of the following five divisions:

• Cemetery
  Responsible for operations at Newton Union Cemetery
• Engineering
  Responsible for City maps, maintaining records, drawings on past construction projects, locating City-owned utilities, assisting other departments with engineering support, and providing inspection for all work completed in the City's right-of-way
• Garbage and Recycling
  Responsible for the operations at sanitary landfill
• Newton Municipal Airport - elevation 953 feet
  Oversees operations of City Airport located immediately west of the Iowa Speedway, which consists of a 5,600 foot long by 100 foot wide runway, associated taxiways, apron areas, 18 hangars, terminal building, and maintenance hangar. • Streets
  Responsible for street maintenance, snow removal, and upkeep of storm sewer collection system
• Water Pollution Control Division
  Responsible for the treatment of wastewater and upkeep of sanitary sewer collection system
