The Newton Public Library offers free notary services to active Newton Public Library cardholders in good standing. Appointments are required and are usually available during regular library hours, Monday through Friday, as staff time allows. If you need to have a signature witnessed by a notary public, please call the library at 641-792-4108 to make your appointment. Please bring your document and a government issued form of photo identification to your appointment.
There is a $10.00 per document fee, for non-cardholders.
Acceptable forms of identification include:
- Valid U.S. Drivers License
- Valid U.S. State ID
- U.S. Passport
If your document requires an additional witness signature, you must provide your own witnesses. Library staff may not serve as witnesses.
Notary services are available to private citizens for personal documents only. Library notaries will not notarize documents for businesses or commercial entities. Library notaries will not sign I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification forms. Notaries reserve the right to refuse to notarize any document, if they do not feel that all necessary criteria have been met, or if an appointment has not been made in advance.
