Managing Your Library Account

Newton Public Library cardholders can view their borrowed items, update their personal information, and reserve or renew materials online.

To view and manage your account, log into the Library Catalog.

  • From the Newton Public Library website, click on "My Account"
  • Enter your library card number (no spaces) and PIN
  • Click on the "My Account" link at the top of the catalog page

Renew Your Borrowed Materials

All materials may be renewed for two check out periods if the items do not already have holds on them. Borrowed library materials that are not yet overdue may be renewed online by logging into your library account. Readers may renew overdue materials via telephone if the accumulated fines per item are $1.00 or less. Fines exceeding this may be renewed inside the library if all fines are paid at the time of renewal and final notices for the materials have not yet been sent.

1. Log in to the catalog using your library card number and your PIN.

2. Click on My Account.

3. Click on the Checkouts tab, then checkmark (left-click) the boxes for the titles you would like to renew.  Click the blue RENEW button. If a renewal is allowed, your checkouts will show a new due date.

Place a Hold

Log in to the library catalog. Once you have searched for and identified a title you would like to have held for you when it is available, click on the Place Hold button. In the pop-up window listing the title, click on the Place Hold(s) button, then the OK button and you’re done!

(If Newton is not your Home library, this service is not available to you at Newton Public Library)

To see where you are currently in the Hold queue, click on My Account, then the Holds button to see a list of your held items and your current relative Place in queue.

Get Email Alerts

If you add your email address to your account, you will automatically receive an alert by email when you have items coming due in 3 days’ time.

To add an email address to your account, log in to the library catalog. Click on Send a Request at the top of the catalog window, choose Request to Add/Change Email Address from the drop-down menu, type in your (new) email address, and click on the Submit button.  Your email address will be added to your account by a staff person the following day.

Update My Contact Information

To change your email address or your primary phone number, log in to the catalog using your library card number and your PIN.

Click on My Account.

Under the Personal Information tab, click on the Edit button. ONLY the Homephone and Email Address fields can be changed on this screen.  Click on the Homephone field to make changes to your phone number, or the Email Address field to make a change to your email address.

 Click on the SAVE button. In the pop-up window, verify your changes by clicking on the Save button.

Request a New Item Purchase

Log in to the catalog using your library card number and your PIN.

Click on Send a Request at the top of the catalog window, choose Recommend to Order from the drop-down menu, and fill in the fields with as much information as you know.  Click on the Submit button.

All requests will be considered for addition to the collection.  If Newton is your home library, a hold will automatically be placed for you when the title is ordered.
