On June 29, 2019, the Newton Police Department conducted a Seat Belt Enforcement Project in the City of Newton. Officers focused on seat belt enforcement and other traffic violations.
The project took place between the hours of 1 to 4 p.m., resulting in 20 traffic stops on motorists. During the project, officers issued 35 citations and warnings for violations of the Iowa Traffic Code. These violations included 18 seat belt citations and warnings, two stop sign citations, five other traffic citations and warnings, ten equipment warnings, and one driving while license suspended arrest.
Voluntary compliance with Iowa’s traffic safety laws is always encouraged. With the warmer weather approaching, we want to remind driver’s to slow down and look for children and bicyclists. Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
