The street crews have been actively working on rebuilding storm sewer catch basins all around the city. Due to aging infrastructure, the storm sewers and the designed structures are falling apart at a steady pace. The street crews encounter storm sewers that are made from red brick and mortar and laid block which deteriorates over time. The crews rebuild them by excavating the old box and reconstructing with poured walls and foundation with rebar reinforcement. This process takes about four days to complete, and the crews average twenty storm sewers a construction season.
