On Wednesday, August 28th, the library welcomed Dave Baker, writer, and photographer for Iowa: The 29th State, for a presentation on lost Iowa places and the stories behind them. You might not know it, but Jasper County is full of ghost towns. Ghost towns in Iowa are not necessarily deserted buildings on a dusty main street. They are marked by the graveyard on a gravel road, the church sitting alone, or a bend in the road by an old farmhouse. Baker showed dozens of original photographs and a variety of artifacts pertaining to Jasper County history. The afternoon of the program Dave was interviewed by WHOtv which lead to a VERY popular program and a packed room, with some folks having to be turned away. With over 110 attendees and constant demand, the Library will be holding the event again at a later date.
