[ARCHIVED] FLUSHING FIRE HYDRANTS 10/4/19 & 10/5/19

The Newton WaterWorks will be flushing fire hydrants:

Friday - October 4, 2019  - 10pm to 6am - North of 1st Ave & Bittersweet subdivision.

Saturday - October 5, 2019 - 10pm to 6am - South of 1st Ave.

Hydrants are flushed several times a year to clear the water mains of internal corrosion and residue which naturally builds up in water mains.  While no interruptions in water service will occur as a result of the work, the Newton WaterWorks advises customers my experience some drop in pressure or some discoloration of their water.  The discoloration will clear up in a few minutes if the cold water tap is allowed to run.  Do Not run hot water & Do Not do laundry until the cold water side is cleared up.

Some customers have questioned why all hydrants are not flushed.  Only those that provide the greatest flow and those that are on dead ends are opened.  Should customers of Newton, Lambs Grove or surrounding area have questions or concerns, they may call the Newton WaterWorks at 641-792-2003  or 641-792-1460.
