On Saturday, December 7 the Newton Police Department hosted the annual Shop with a Cop event. The event, co-organized by Sgt. Dillon Lavely and SRO Julie Britton paired eleven officers with eleven children and allows them to shop for holiday gifts for the kids and their families. After shopping, the group wraps the presents, has lunch and visits with Santa.
Thanks to partnerships with Walmart, HIRTA, United Way of Jasper County, the Masonic Lodge and Pizza Ranch; as well as donations received throughout the year, this event continues to build positive relationships between our officers and the kids and our community.
