From January 1 through November 30, the landfill accepted 35,233.17 tons of material that range from residential trash to construction debris, including 1,495.93 tons of asbestos. The Newton Sanitary Landfill has also diverted many items from being landfilled. Many of these items were recycled instead. The items recycled include 551 car tires, 106 pickup tires, 27 large truck tires, 1,588.79 tons concrete rubble, 19.72 tons of household recyclables, 37.31 tons of metal, and countless loads of yard waste material.
Through March, the Newton Sanitary Landfill is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
