This May 17-23 marks the 60th annual National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association. The week celebrates public works professionals who focus on infrastructure, facilities and services that are of vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities. The City of Newton is one of thousands of cities to celebrate public works accomplishments during this week.
The City of Newton urges all citizens to celebrate the important projects and daily services of our dedicated Public Works professionals and recognize the substantial contributions they make in protecting our health, safety and quality of life — now in these challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic, and always.
“Public works staff across the country are always doing their part to make communities safe and enjoyable places to live,” said Public Works Director Jody Rhone. “Recognizing the hard-working, dedicated and humble community service of the men and women in our public works department is important.”
The City of Newton Public Works Department has 32 full-time employees who the community’s sewers, streets, parks, Landfill, waste water systems, and more. The 2020 Public Works Week theme is “The Rhythm of Public Works” which aims to challenge citizens to think about their communities as a symphony of essential services, working in concert to create a great place to live. The American Public Works Association has celebrated the annual National Public Works Week since 1960.
