[ARCHIVED] Virtual Summer Reading - June 1 to July 31

Imagine Your Story

Youth Summer Reading Program (0 - 12 years old)

Download the READSquared app for free from your devices App Store (Apple or Google). The app will go live June 1 and the program concludes July 31. Kids will earn 100 points for every chapter book read, and 50 points for each picture book. Ebooks and downloadable audio work too. If you prefer, you can log points with 1 minute reading equaling 1 point. Just log your reading on the app, and earn a virtual badge for each 100 points and finish the program at 1000 points. Along the way you will collect Brag Tags (What are Brag Tags? See picture!) We will safely distribute brag tags via our Curbside pickup service until the library fully reopens. At registration you will receive a ball and chain necklace or keychain to collect your brag tags all summer long. Children will also receive a free Scholastic book to keep when finishing the reading program! Children not yet reading on their own may count books read to them. Children ages 0-2 will receive a bottle of bubbles and a board book to keep upon completion of the program instead of the Brag Tags. Questions? Call Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter at 641-792-4108.

You may log points either as 1 point per minute read, or 100 points per teen book read, and downloadable ebooks and audiobooks count also. Books can be checked out from our library via Curbside pickup until the library reopens, or you may read books you already have access to at home. Questions, give Youth Services Librarian Phyllis Peter a call at 641-792-4108.

Adult Summer Reading Program (18 years old and older)

Why should kids have all the fun? Read along with our adult summer reading program starting Monday, June 1st! Participating is easy; just check out 10 books from the library and log them using either the READSquared app or our adult summer reading log. Once your log is complete, turn it back in to the library for a free adult movie ticket to the Capitol II Theatre in Newton.* Reading logs are due by Friday, July 31. Log the books that you check out from the Newton Public Library on your bookmark reading log or in the READSquared app. You may count any book that you borrow from the Newton Public Library, including digital eBooks and audiobooks through our Libby app. Earn a free adult movie ticket to the Capitol II Theatre when you log 10 books!*
