After careful consideration, the City of Newton will move forward with a Fourth of July fireworks-only event at Agnes Patterson Memorial Park during the evening of Saturday, July 4. All other activities have been canceled.
Earlier this year the Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce announced the cancellation of their annual Fourth of July Parade and activities, and at that time the City was still working through various scenarios. After consideration and much discussion, it was decided to cancel the daytime activities at Agnes Patterson Memorial Park leading up to the fireworks but move forward with the fireworks display.
The success of the event will greatly depend on the cooperation of the City’s residents to follow CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health guidelines including practicing social distancing. Residents are encouraged to remain in or near their cars to watch the display, or to keep six feet of distance between groups if watching from seating in the park.
The City of Newton’s Fourth of July Fireworks display is made possible by donations from people like you. Donations are accepted online at www.newtongov.org or by mailing in a donation to the Community Services office at 1700 N 4th Ave W; Newton, IA 50208.
If you have questions about the fireworks display, please reach out to the City of Newton’s Community Services Manager at 641-792-6622, ext. 2302.
