The Newton Police Department recently conducted a Traffic Enforcement Project in the city. The NPD focused on seat belt enforcement and other traffic violations. The project took place between the hours of 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M, resulting in 13 traffic stops on motorists. During the project, the NPD issued 19 citations and warnings for violations of the Iowa Traffic Code. There were 3 citations written for no seat belt, window tint, and a moving violation. There were 16 warnings; 1 for speeding, 3 registration violations, 5 no proof of insurance, 3 moving violations, and 4 equipment violations.
Voluntary compliance with Iowa’s traffic safety laws is always encouraged. With the warmer weather approaching, we want to remind drivers to slow down and look for children and bicyclists.
Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.
