Have you responded to the 2020 U.S. Census yet? There’s still time! Visit 2020census.gov or call 1-844-330-2020 . Census takers are now knocking on doors of households that have not responded. The U.S. Census Bureau states that it continues to prioritize the health and safety of its workforce and the public. Staff will continue to follow Federal, state and local guidance, including providing appropriate safety trainings and personal protective equipment to field staff. They will wear masks and carry badges and cellphones with the bureau’s logo on them.
Plans are to finish non-response follow-ups (NRFU) by Sept. 30, 2020. Self-response options will also close on that date to permit the commencement of data processing. Under this plan, the Census Bureau intends to meet a similar level of household responses as collected in prior censuses, including outreach to hard-to-count communities.
The 2020 Census will determine congressional representation, inform hundreds of billions in federal funding every year and provide data that will impact communities for the next decade. Things like free and reduced school lunches, plans for roads, support for firefighters and much more are impacted by the Census results. The U.S. Census Bureau is bound by law to protect your answers and keep them strictly confidential. In fact, every employee takes an oath to protect your personal information for life.
