“We are Newton Strong, we will bounce back,” Erin Yeager, executive director Newton Main Street, said, noting the signature phrase is starting to catch on. “I see it all over the place. Whether it’s in their wording on Facebook posts or sending messages via email. You see on the bottom it says, ‘NewtonStrong.’” (Newton Daily News)
To be #NewtonStrong is to be resilient. When the going got tough earlier this year, Newton Main Street offered #NewtonStrong apparel and decals. Those same shirts are back and have been given a “facelift.” This time, the hashtags #COVID-19 and #Derecho2020 are emblazoned on the back.
More black, green and red T-shirts are available at Newton Main Street, but so are red/black and gray/black baseball T-shirts. Proceeds will go toward the organization “to help maintain the future and integrity of the downtown Main Street district” as it continues to grow and assist the community.
Regular T-shirts cost $15 for sizes small to XL; $16 for sizes 2XL to 4XL. Baseball T-shirts cost $25 for sizes small to 2XL.
To coincide with the new shirts, Newton Main Street is kicking off a shoutout campaign to recognize individuals and businesses in the community that have helped out during this difficult year. Newton Main Street knows that communities are stronger when their downtowns are vital. 2020 has put a hurt on everyone but has particularly hit the community’s retailers and restaurants, as well as beloved events.
In celebration of how Newton has reached out to each other, Newton Main Street wants to compile the great stories of those who have reached out in our community to make us #NewtonStrong.
Entries should include the name of the person or business you are shouting out, a picture (if possible) and one – to paragraphs about what the person or business has done in 2020 to help others. These shoutouts will be posted on Newton Main Street’s Facebook page. Please email your entry to firstname.lastname@example.org before September 15.
