The Newton Fire Department warns residents about extreme fire conditions today (Monday, March 29). A combination of warm temperatures and low humidity in combination with gusty winds has created an extreme fire danger across most of Iowa. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory and a Red Flag Warning for the area from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM today.

The Newton Fire Department urges residents to not burn today and to check fires from over the weekend for hot spots to ensure they do not rekindle. Wind conditions are expected to increase this morning with sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts of 50 mph expected this afternoon.

Questions can be directed to the Office of the Fire Chief at (641) 792-3347.
