[ARCHIVED] Downtown Lighting Improvements Will Cause Temporary Streetlight Outages

2021 Project General Updates

The City of Newton has started working on several parts of the downtown lighting improvements project.

Alliant Energy will be removing the "H-structures" from the alleyway on N 2nd Ave W and installing a new power distribution system in the near future. The City's contractor has also started upgrading the streetlights to LED lights to work with the new, lower voltage power distribution system.

Due to these streetlight upgrades and the new power distribution system, there will be temporary streetlight outages in the evening and overnight in the next 10 - 14 days. The areas affected will be the north side of downtown Newton (2nd Ave W, W 2nd St N, and 1 St N). Please note that the City, Alliant Energy, and our contractor are working on finishing the project as quickly as possible, and we thank you for your patience.

If you have questions about the project, please call the City of Newton’s Public Works Operations Superintendent at 641-792-6622.
