The Newton Police Department conducted a seat belt usage survey on March 30 that showed strong results by motorists in the community.
During the survey, Newton police observed 95 percent of drivers properly wearing their seat belts, a 2 percent increase from the March 2020 seat belt survey. Newton police also observed 93 percent of front-seat passengers wearing their seat belts during this year’s survey.
“The Newton Police Department would like to remind motorists to buckle up, slow down and obey all traffic laws,” Newton Police Chief Rob Burdess said.
Primary funding for the project was provided by the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau.
