[ARCHIVED] Officers Sworn In at Newton Police Department

Newton Police Department

Three officers were sworn in at the Newton Police Department by Mayor Michael L. Hansen on Friday, April 30 . The swearing-in included a new officer to the force and two officers receiving promotions.

Garrett Osborne was sworn in as the Newton Police Department's newest officer. Officer Osborne has been with the Newton Police Department since 2020, serving previously as one of our non-sworn Community Service Officers. Osborne served nine years in the United States Navy as a Gunners Mate First Class and was deployed numerous times throughout his military career. During his service, he was recognized as the United States Navy Sailor of the Year in 2016 and received several other awards and commendations. He will attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2021. 

Officer Keith Pittman was promoted and sworn in as the department's newest sergeant. Sgt. Pittman has been with the Newton Police Department since 2010 and has served as a narcotics detective, patrol officer, motorcycle officer, driving instructor, and a number of other positions. Pittman graduated from the 235th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2010. He earned an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice from Des Moines Area Community College in 2009. Sgt. Pittman is assigned as the supervisor of the 2nd shift patrol.

Officer Chris Wing was promoted and sworn in as Police Lieutenant. Lt. Wing has been with the Newton Police Department since 2002 and has served as a patrol sergeant, investigations sergeant, detective, patrol officer, tactical team commander, field training officer, sniper, firearms instructor, and several other positions. He is a Newton native and graduated from Newton High School in 1992. Wing graduated from the 187th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in 2002.  Lt. Wing is assigned as the commander of the 2nd/3rd shift patrol divisions.
