[ARCHIVED] Britton Named Newton Police Department's Community Engagement Officer

Officer Julie Britton

The Newton Police Department's goals is to be more proactive with its policing, as opposed to reactive. With that in mind, creating a community engagement officer position within the Newton Police Department has been a work in progress on for several years. Officer Julie Britton currently serves in this new role.

The primary purpose of this new position is to engage the community and the public at a deeper level with more intention. Although police officers engage with the public every day, the community engagement officer will put community policing front and center. Officer Britton will meet regularly with Newton residents, businesses, and organizations to build relationships and determine needs before a problem arises. She will also be active with the Crime Free Multi-Housing and the Cops and Neighborhoods United programs.

Officer Britton has served with the department for almost ten years. She most recently served as one of the school resource officers at Newton Community School District for four years.
