The Newton Fire Department responded to a garage fire at 605 E 13th St N on July 20 at 8:28 PM.
When crews arrived the building was fully involved and was melting siding on the neighboring buildings. The fire was in a detached garage but was only a few feet from houses on either side. A quick knockdown of the fire by responding crews kept the fire from spreading to additional buildings.
The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes and was completely out by 9:45 PM. Fire crews were on scene until 10:50 PM. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
One Newton firefighter received minor injuries and was seen and released at MercyOne Newton.
Other agencies that assisted on the accident include Newton Police Department, Baxter Fire Department, and Kellogg Fire Department.
