[ARCHIVED] Be Weather Aware Dec. 15

wind-damage

Severe, potentially damaging winds are expected in Newton on Wednesday, Dec. 15. Central Iowa is expected to see very windy conditions (70+ mph) throughout Wednesday with conditions the most severe between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m. (Thursday, Dec. 16). Please note that high winds could also trigger outdoor warning sirens. Severe storms are possible, and late afternoon/evening travel will likely be impacted.

Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items which may be susceptible to high winds. This includes loose outdoor objects such as trash bins, holiday decorations, deck/patio furniture and trampolines. If it is your trash/recycling collection day, please leave bins out no longer than needed and perhaps consider skipping recycling this week if your bin is not full. This can help limit litter in City neighborhoods.
