[ARCHIVED] Downtown Streetscape Project Update

project update

Update (11-3-22)

In-Roads will begin the next part of the downtown streetscape project on Monday, November 7. They will mill the existing asphalt and then immediately complete the HMA paving. They plan to start on W 3rd St S on Monday morning and east to W 2nd St S, E 2nd St S and E 3rd St S. In-Roads expects to complete the project on Wednesday, November 9. Parking will be restricted on all four streets beginning on Monday and the roads will be closed during the milling and paving. If you have questions, please call the City of Newton Public Works Department at 641-792-6622.

Update (10-19-22)

With the downtown streetscape project occurring between 1st Ave and 2nd Ave S, there have been questions regarding the changes in the parking layout on the streets. Don’t worry – there is still going to be parking on W 3rd St S, W 2nd St S, E 2nd St S and E 3rd St S! You’ll be able to park near your favorite businesses just like you used to. With the exception of a few diagonal stalls E 2nd St S being converted to parallel stalls, no parking is going to be lost. The streetscape (shown in the photo) has a 40-foot-wide road, with 8-foot-wide parking stalls and 12-foot-wide travel lanes. Parking on the street will be open in early November.

Update (10-11-22)

Caliber Concrete will be closing E 2nd St S on October 11, 2022 to begin pavement removals. W 2nd St S continues to be closed while storm sewer work is completed.

Update (10-4-22)

Caliber Concrete has closed the 100 block of W 2nd St S as they continue the downtown streetscape project. They have reopened the 100 block of E 3rd St S to traffic.
