Updated (10/7/2022) On September 29th, 2022 at 7:09pm Newton Police Officers and Newton Fire Paramedics were dispatched to Git N Go, 801 1st Ave W, for a report of a stabbing. The investigation into that case has been ongoing. On the evening of October 5th 2022, 33 year old Duanne Cordero A Lopez of Newton was arrested at the Newton Police Department for attempted murder stemming from that case. Lopez had been located by investigators and was questioned regarding the incident.
A search warrant of Lopez’s residence was conducted after the arrest and evidence was collected. Lopez had moved to Newton in September of 2022 and currently has a warrant for his arrest from the Denver (Colorado) Police Department for domestic assault.
Duanne Cordero A Lopez was arrested for Attempting to Commit Murder (Iowa Code: 707.11), a Class B Felony, and transported to the Jasper County Jail.

On September 29th, 2022 at 7:09 p.m. officers from the Newton Police Department and paramedics from the Newton Fire Department were dispatched to Git N Go, 801 1st Ave W, for a report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim who had been stabbed in the abdomen one time with a knife by an unknown assailant. The suspect was described as male and left the area in what was reported to be a gray sedan. The motive for the stabbing is unknown at this time. The victim was transported to a hospital for medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
