[ARCHIVED] Don't Let the Frost Bite

Alliant Energy’s Hometown Rewards, in partnership with Green Iowa AmeriCorps , is providing free low-impact weatherization services for residents of Newton through its “Don’t Let the Frost Bite!” weatherization drive. Skilled Green Iowa AmeriCorps members will train volunteer teams in basic weatherization skills and lead them in serving the community.

This weatherization work will help seal your home to keep the cold air outside and warm air inside. It will also increase energy efficiency to help people stay comfortable and save money on energy bills. Services could include installing new weather-stripping around doors, installing foam gaskets behind outlets and light switches, and window wrap kits among other improvements.

The drive is set to take place November 7, and could happen again on November 14, if there is enough interest.

Prizes will be offered to both weatherization teams and household applicants.

The team that is able to install the most weatherization measures will get $500 to donate to the organization of their choice. Free lunch and t-shirts will also be provided to volunteers.

There will be a drawing for two $500 energy efficiency prizes for all households that apply.

You can sign up a team by contacting Jackie Boat: 641-521-0815, jackieb@newtongov.org.
