[ARCHIVED] Applications available for Citizens Police Academy

The Newton Police Department's 2016 Citizens Police Academy is planned for Sept. 13 through Nov. 1.

The Citizens Police Academy is an eight-week class that offers 24 hours of classroom and hands-on training in the following areas: firearms safety and shooting, traffic enforcement, arrest tactics, shoot/don't shoot scenarios, SWAT team/search warrants, hiring process/requirements, emergency driving training, defensive tactics, non-lethal weapon deployment, crime scene investigations, narcotics investigations and OWI enforcement.

Classes are held from 6 to 9 p.m. every Tuesday evening Sept. 13 through Nov. 1.

Those interested are asked to complete an application and submit it to the Newton Police Department by Aug. 15. Applications are available at the police department, by emailing Janet Cox at janetc@newtongov.org or by printing at the link below.
