[ARCHIVED] Tree Workshop/Volunteer Opportunity

The City of Newton is participating in a special program offered by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources called the Sustainable Urban Forestry Training and Assistance Program. The program includes up to 40 hours of training for staff and volunteers, a complete tree inventory of the community, a community tree management plan, and a tree planting event.

The City of Newton would like to invite volunteers interested in helping with the inventorying and learning more about tree identification and tree care to attend the educational sessions. Two sessions are scheduled for next week on Monday, June 27th and Tuesday, June 28th. The programs will take place at the Newton Arboretum and will run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day. Topics will include tree health and data collection on Monday, and more tree i.d. review and data collection on Tuesday.

Individuals interested in participating in these training programs should contact Nathan Unsworth at the Newton Park Office at (641) 792-1470 or nathanu@newtongov.org.
