[ARCHIVED] City-Wide Electronic Recycling Day complimentary pick-up through Hometown Rewards

Saturday, September 17th is Newton's City-Wide Electronic Recycling Day. It is a great opportunity to get rid of old appliances and electronics that are no longer of use. You can drop off items at the corner of W 4th St N and N 2nd Ave W between 8 am and 12 pm.

Hometown Rewards is offering complimentary pick-up for those unable to make it to the drop-off point. Applications may be completed online for this service at http://bit.ly/NewtonRecycles, or applicants may contact Jackie Boat at jackieb@newtongov.org or 641-521-0815 to schedule a time. There is limited capacity and application does not guarantee a pick-up. Pick-up items will be prioritized according to accessibility.

Some items are subject to recycling fees. Fees must be collected upon pick-up/drop off. The fee to recycle TVs and computer monitors is $15. The fee for larger TVs (big screens/projection/console) is $30. Cash or check payment may be made to: H & W Recycling Inc., 204 Townsend Park Road, Baxter, IA 50028.

Deadline to apply for pick up is 12 p.m. Monday, September 12.

Residents with running and cooling refrigerators, freezers, or AC units that they would like to recycle may apply for free, professional pick-up through Alliant Energy’s rebate program. Qualifying devices receive a rebate check of up to $50 upon pick-up. Call Alliant at 1-866-255-4268 - Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to schedule this service.
