Again this summer the J.R. Stelzer Company of Lincoln Nebraska will be painting fire hydrants in Newton. This summer they will be working in the south west quadrant of the City. Last year they painted hydrants on all of 1st Avenue and a three block radius around the square. In the past, summer help was hired to paint the hydrants and the paint job lasted maybe one to two years. With this four step system we hope to get 15 to 20 years longevity. The paint system involves sandblasting, zinc coating primer, painting and clear coating each hydrant. We have an investment of around $4,000 per hydrant and we want to protect this asset. The company has been contracted to paint 100 hydrants as part of the CIP. The cost per hydrant is $240.
The company will start on Tuesday, May 2nd and will continue until they have painted the first 100 hydrants. Hydrant painting has also been approved for the FY17-18 WaterWorks CIP for $24,000.
Should their be any questions or problems you may contact the WaterWorks at 792-2003
