Consumer Protection Division representatives will travel to Newton on Thursday in an effort to provide “mobile office” access for Iowans with consumer-related questions or complaints, Attorney General Tom Miller announced Friday.
Division representatives will be on hand to provide information, answer questions, and assist with consumer protection matters, including complaints from consumers.
Representatives will be available on Thursday, June 22 from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Newton Public Library (100 N. 3rd Ave. W).
“Every day, Iowans email and call us with questions, comments and complaints about consumer issues, and we hope our mobile office effort provides people an opportunity to visit with our staff face-to-face,” Attorney General Tom Miller said.
The outreach effort began last September in Cedar Rapids when Miller traveled there and opened a temporary mobile office. A Consumer Protection Division investigator provided flood victims with information on hiring a contractor, avoiding fraud, and the state’s price-gouging rule.
“While, thankfully, the damage was fairly limited because of the community’s quick response, residents still approached us about a variety of consumer issues,” Miller said. “Based on that experience, we’d like to do more throughout the state and hope that Iowans come to us with questions, complaints, or even just to say hello.”
