The City of Newton Parks Operations, working with Hometown Pride - a Keep Iowa Beautiful program, applied for and received a Build with Bags Grant from the Iowa Grocery Industry Association. The grant was to establish a pocket park at I-80 interchange 164 adjacent to the Newton welcome sign. The Build with Bag Grant provided $2,000 to purchase 2 picnic tables, 2 park benches and a waste receptacle constructed of 100% recycled plastic grocery bags, dry-cleaning bags, and newspaper sleeves.
Parks Operations crews constructed the PC concrete pads and installed the picnic tables, park benches, trash receptacle and a dog waste station along the Hike & Bike trail at the I-80 exit #164 interchange.
