The Iowa High School Athletic Association’s (IHSAA) Class 1A Boys State Tournament was held at Westwood on Thursday and Friday, May 24th and 25th. 64 Players from 19 different schools from all across Iowa qualified for the tournament. The course was in excellent tournament condition and proved to be a tough test for the kids. Grundy Center won the team competition with a 2 day total score of 683, counting 4 of their 6 best player’s scores. Jacob Hesner of East Buchanan-Winthrop won the individual championship with a 2-day total of 147. There were over 200 players and spectators at Westwood each day for the tournament, with many of them staying overnight in Newton.
Westwood also hosted the Iowa PGA Spring Series #2 on Saturday, May 12th. The tournament was an ACE point for the Iowa PGA Junior Tour for their Spring Tournament Series. It featured 50 Juniors and 20 Pee Wee participants. Local golfer Rylee Heryford won the girls age 14-15 age division with a score of 78.
