Parks Operations staff has had an extremely busy spring with preparing both Union and Memorial Garden Cemeteries for Memorial Day, prepping all the ball fields, hosting the Iowa High School 1A Boys Golf Tournament, getting Maytag Pool ready to open for the summer, cleaning and prepping all the shelters used for graduation parties, in addition to trying to keep up with the mowing and trimming.
Parks Operation staff constructed a scoreboard at Westwood Golf Course, outside of the golf pro shop. The scoreboard will be used to display results for tournaments and golf outings by the golf professional. Some of the supplies for this project were donated by the former Newton Country Club. The results from each days play during the boys 1A High School State Golf Tournament were the first to be posted on the scoreboard.
Parks Operations staff made many upgrades to the Maytag Pool including painting and installing new benches, umbrellas, safety items in and around the pool.
