Public Works has been taking advantage of the dry weather constructing a new storm water detention basin, as required by the Iowa DNR to stay in compliance with our storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP). As future landfill cells are constructed to the south of the active cells, the existing storm water detention area will be incorporated into those cells, so there will be a need to have the new storm water detention basin in place prior to the new cell construction. The construction of this storm water detention basin project will take the landfill crew several months to complete, so even though there isn’t the immediate need for this basin the crews need to work on it as the weather allows.
