The Summer Youth Police Academy had the largest number of kids participate in the program’s history. Due to the large number of applicants, the Police Department added another session to allow all of the kids to attend. The academy was held during the last week of June and second week of July. The event is for students entering 5th-8th grade with participants learning about the duties of a police officer, crime scene investigations, arrest procedures, physical fitness, SWAT operations, K9 and traffic stops. This has been an annual event for over 25 years.
