The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet on October 16th and continue their review of the Comprehensive Plan Chapters. At their last meeting, the Planning and Zoning Commission confirmed the Vision and Four Strategic Objectives as well as reviewed 3 Chapters- Sustainability, Education, and Natural Resources & Ag
As a reminder, the Vision in the Comprehensive Plan, which is both reflective and aspirational, is: Newton is a progressive, family-friendly community, a shining star of Central Iowa, and a Place to Call Home.
The four strategic objectives are:
- Grow Newton’s population, specifically targeting young families
- Increase employment opportunities.
- Improve the City’s curb appeal.
- Fill vacant buildings and increase local shopping options.
