Earlier this year the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a 1-billion dollar supplemental appropriation for airport projects, with grant application submittal deadlines coming in two phases - an initial deadline for “Priority Consideration” generally for larger airports across the country, and a second deadline for smaller airports seeking any remaining funds in the appropriation.
Those projects being awarded a grant from this funding source will be paid for at 100%, which eliminates the need for a local match or contribution to the project. Because of this, Community Services’ staff, along with the City’s aviation engineer CGA, recently submitted a grant application for a $3.3 million project to complete the taxiway improvements included in the most recent Airport Improvement Plan.
If awarded early next year, this grant could save the City several hundred thousand dollars in local match requirements when compared to the typical project funding agreement normally seen on airport projects.
