Starling Word Counters are now available to check out at the Library Circulation Desk - think of them as a Fitbit for vocabulary! Two Starling Word Counters were purchased by the Friends of the Newton Public Library and are available to check out for three weeks at a time. Simply download the free Starling app to your smartphone or tablet and attach the soft, plastic, waterproof word counter to your baby’s outfit. The Starling will count how many words your baby or toddler is exposed to, and can track any language. Why is word counting important? Because research shows the number of words your child is exposed to before age four is a huge predictor of future success in school. The Starling offers complete privacy, no recording takes place.
