In an emergency, every second counts. With the recent snowfalls many local hydrants have been completely covered. The Newton Fire Department asks residents to shovel a 3-foot radius and a small walk path to the curb around your local fire hydrants. This clears enough space for firefighters to work around the hydrant without having to delay fire operations. Also, removing snow and ice accumulation on the hydrant will ensure easy and quick access.
