Officer Ashlyn Breckenridge began her training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston on January 3rd. The 15-week basic training academy exposes police officers to a diverse curriculum of police legal and procedural topics as well as practical applications in firearms, defensive tactics, physical fitness, emergency driving and use of force. Students are required to reside at the academy for the duration of the training but are allowed to go home on the weekends. Once Officer Breckenridge graduates from ILEA, she will return to Newton and will be assigned to the patrol division.
