The Newton City Council and Newton Community School District unanimously approved the addition of a 2nd school resource officer to serve primarily at the new middle school.
The City and NCSD have had an agreement for a full-time SRO to serve in the schools since the early 90s. Both entities saw a need to increase staffing in the district to allow for a greater focus on relationship building, education and prevention as well as safety. The NCSD will reimburse the City for 56.25% of both officer’s salary and benefits annually for the next 5 school years.
Recruitment and training for the additional SRO will occur over the next few months.
