The 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is an ongoing program at the Newton Public Library designed to encourage parents to read every day with their child. Studies show that being read to every day is the single biggest predictor of later success in school. Give your child a jump-start, and register for the Library’s “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” program today!
If parents read one book a day to their child starting as a newborn, it will take approximately 3 years to finish the program.
The program was launched at the library 3 years ago and now has 126 participants, with 26 finishers so far. Stickers are given for every 100 books, and a book to keep is given after 500 books. At completion participants receive a Dr. Seuss bag full of items to help them get ready for kindergarten and a hardcover book. Participants have read approximately 39,300 books so far!
