The Fire Department’s newest engine was out of service since the end of April while being repaired in Weyauwega, Wisconsin. In December of 2018, while responding to an ambulance rollover on Interstate 80, Engine 1 lost traction on the icy highway and spun into the cable barriers on Interstate 80. The vehicle sustained over $50,000 in damage in the accident. Department members were picking up the vehicle in Weyauwega on 5/23/2019 and returning to Newton on the same day. The Engine is back in service.
